FAU Celebrates Summer 2019 Commencement

Florida Atlantic University will confer more than 1,990 degrees today during four commencement ceremonies in the Carole and Barry Kaye Performing Arts Auditorium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The new graduates will join more than 171,700 alumni who have graduated from FAU since the University opened its doors in 1964. This is the largest summer graduating class in FAU history.

Dr. Ilan Alhadeff,Ā the father of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting victim Alyssa Alhadeff, persevered to receive his executive MBA fromĀ Ā at 8:30 a.m.Ilan also is an affiliate faculty member inĀ . Since tragedy struck the Alhadeff family, Ilan and his wife, Lori, have made it their mission to improve security at public schools nationwide. Along with creatingĀ , a national, nonprofit organization to protect ą£ą£Ö±²„Šć and teachers at school by increasing the response times of police and emergency services, they are also currently advocating forĀ Ā to be passed by the U.S. Congress.
Some interesting statistics regarding the summer graduating class include the fact that 47 of the degree recipients are over the age of 50 and four are over the age of 60. The oldest graduate is 73 and the youngest is 18. The graduates represent 32 countries.
