FAU Celebrates Spring 2020 Graduates
Florida Atlantic University will confer more than 3,400 degrees for the spring 2020 semester. The new graduates will join more than 175,000 who have graduated from FAU since the University opened its doors in 1964. This is the largest graduating class in FAU history.
“I share our graduates’ disappointment that we couldn’t host commencement ceremonies as planned this week. The Spring Class of 2020 achieved much during their time at FAU and we’re very proud of their accomplishments,” said FAU President John Kelly. “I look forward to congratulating each graduate in person at a future ceremony, when it’s safe for us to gather again.”
Spring commencement highlights the accomplishments of some outstanding groups of graduates, including:
- The members of FAU’s class of 2020 will enter a field of nursing that has been forever changed by the COVID-19 crisis. At least have witnessed these changes firsthand and have been on the front lines fighting the coronavirus disease.
- Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be receiving their college degree along with their high school diploma in the same week and will not have a traditional high school graduation or university commencement ceremony.
- Accelerated Induction into Teaching (AIT) ֱ is a unique, collaborative program between FAU’s College of Education and the local school districts to address teacher shortages. Due to the impacts of COVID-19, had to switch ֱ who traditionally learn in a classroom to online learning.
Some interesting statistics regarding the spring graduating class include the fact that 77 of the degree recipients are over the age of 50 and nine are over the age of 60. The oldest graduate is 77, and the youngest is 17. The graduates represent 48 countries.
