FAU Celebrates International Education Week

Florida Atlantic University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will celebrate International Education Week (IEW) from Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Nov. 18.

Florida Atlantic University’s International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) will celebrate International Education Week (IEW) from Monday, Nov. 14 through Friday, Nov. 18. IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide, and to promote programs that prepare ֱ for a global environment.

The following events will be held at FAU’s Boca Raton campus, 777 Glades Road:

Opening Ceremony

Monday, Nov. 14 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Marleen & Harold Forkas Alumni Center

International Education Week kicks off with a speech from Steven D. Roper, Ph.D., executive director of the Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative at FAU.

Discussion Panel

Global Network Initiative I: International Education Exchange

Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 3 p.m.

Davis Pavilion (DP-101)

International ֱ and study abroad scholars will share the challenges and rewards of living and learning overseas. The panel will be moderated by Yekaterina M. Davis, Ph.D., assistant director of ISSS.

English Conversation Group

Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Davis Pavilion (DP-101)

International ֱ and scholars will have the opportunity to practice their conversational English. The panel will be facilitated by Damara Martin, a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Languages, Linguistics and Comparative Literature.

Cross-Disciplinary Global Learning for Student Success

Wednesday, Nov. 16 from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Lunch will be provided during this webinar for faculty, international officers, researchers and other international educators. Mihaela Metianu, Ph.D., director of ISSS, will moderate a discussion on student academic and career success in a globally interconnected society.

Enjoy soda and popcorn while watching two 30-minute documentaries, “Beyond Our Boundaries” and “A World of Gestures: Culture and Nonverbal Communication”. A guided discussion facilitated by Dr. Noemi Marin, a professor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, will follow.
