Florida Atlantic University will become the first public university in the United States to offer an evidence-based training proven to reduce a woman’s risk of sexual assault. Flip the Script is a 12-hour sexual assault resistance-training program that follows the Enhanced Assess Acknowledge Act (EAAA) curriculum developed by Charlene Senn, Ph.D., from the University of Windsor. In a randomized trial, women who completed the EAAA training were 46 percent less likely to experience a completed sexual assault, and 63 percent less likely to experience an attempted sexual assault.

Flip the Script emphasizes that it is never the victim’s fault if they are sexually assaulted, and no student should have to limit their college experience due to fear of sexual assault.

“We recognize that perpetrators alone are responsible for sexual assault, and we will never stop working to end perpetration,” said Sarah Deatherage, health promotion coordinator in FAU’s Owls Care Health Promotion. “As long as sexual assault is an issue on college campuses, women have the right to defend their well-being. Flip the Script is one of FAU’s many comprehensive efforts against sexual assault.”

The training, which will be offered at FAU this fall, is divided into four, three-hour sessions. The program is free and is open to all self-identified women currently enrolled at FAU. A certificate of completion will be given to ֱ who attend all four sessions.
